Newland house has a thriving music department with over 200 instrumental lessons taking place each week. We have a highly experienced team of Visiting Music Teachers covering most instruments including the oboe and bassoon.

There are many benefits to learning an instrument but one thing I believe should be top of the list is the pleasure in making music and a sense of getting your own personal achievement in learning a new skill. There are many rewards from being part of an ensemble or singing in a choir and feeling part of the community. At times, learning an instrument can sometimes be tough, but establishing  a regular practice routine early on means a child will progress at a good rate and feel the benefit and see the progress when learning. Children should be practicing 3 - 4 times a week for 10 - 20 minutes a time.

At Newland House there are lots opportunities to perform on your instrument, from weekly performers in assembly, informal morning instrumental concerts or our after school concerts.

You can start learning some instruments from Reception, and others from Year 1 and 3 upwards. Below is a guide to when a child can start lessons.
