WHAT IS LAMDA?
LAMDA is the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and offers exams resulting in recognised qualifications in both Speech and Drama. The examinations are designed to equip candidates, whatever their age or aspirations, with a range of skills that will serve them throughout life. Preparation for an examination unlocks the imagination and develops creative-thinking and communication skills as well as refining technical skills and artistry.
WHAT CAN MY CHILD DO?
The syllabus choices offered at Newland House School are:
ACTING - Pupils will learn the important stage skills required to be a convincing and fun character in a scene that will be presented to an examiner followed by a discussion about their piece.
PUBLIC SPEAKING - These exams are designed to develop the skills necessary for effective oral communication and public presentation. Structuring speeches and conversing ideas in a confident and relaxed way is an important life skill.
VERSE & PROSE - An exam that is ideal for bringing out a confident speaker. Your child will explore different verse forms, metre and rhythm and learn about a range of authors and poets.
SHAKESPEARE - New to LAMDA at Newland House we now offer a Shakespeare syllabus, a great introduction to Shakespeare.
HOW DO LESSONS WORK?
Students will work with their LAMDA teacher towards an exam subject of their choice (see above). Lessons are available as solo or duo sessions. The duration of lessons is 30 minutes. We aim to teach 30 lessons within an academic year. (The number of lessons per term may vary due to how long the term lasts)
WHAT DO THE LESSONS INVOLVE?
LAMDA is a brilliant opportunity for children to build their confidence whilst honing their performance and communication skills. Most LAMDA exams require students to learn a piece of text off by heart and I would ask that you encourage your child to practice and learn these at home too. Pupils will be provided with a folder for their pieces and any practice sheets. The students will work towards a recital that takes place twice a year.
LESSON RATES
September 2024/5 SOLO £28 per 30 minutes DUO £15 per session
Classes will be invoiced at the beginning of each term (usually 10 weeks) - a term’s notice is requested should a pupil not wish to continue with the lessons.
